PM welcomes Solomon Islands for Christ

April 26

Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele has welcomed the upcoming Solomon Islands for Christ initiative following a visit from a Seventh-day Adventist Church delegation on April 24.

The delegation, led by Solomon Islands Mission general secretary Pastor Linray Tutuo, shared details of the nationwide program, which will run from July 5–18. The group included representatives from the Mission, Hope Channel, and key ministry leaders from across health, evangelism, stewardship and family ministries. They presented the Prime Minister with a Bible, an Andrews Bible Commentary and official “Mission 2026” apparel.

They briefed the Prime Minister on key lead-up programs, including a national health expo which will be held in Honiara from May 11–16, with simultaneous programs in provincial centres. More than 350 health personnel are expected to participate, providing free services including screening for non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure. The initiative will involve local and international professionals, including those connected with the 10,000 Toes Campaign.

Additional outreach will include the “Schools for Christ” program from May 16–23, offering counselling and support services to students in Adventist schools across the country.

The delegation also highlighted the role of Hope Channel Solomon Islands in promoting Solomon Islands for Christ through television, radio and online platforms.

Speaking during the visit, Mission health director Dr Chester Kuma raised concern about the growing impact of non-communicable diseases in the Solomons, noting ongoing efforts to address conditions such as diabetes.

Prime Minister Manele thanked the Church for its continued prayers and longstanding contributions to the country, particularly in the areas of health and education. He acknowledged the role of churches in supporting the spiritual wellbeing of communities.

“Transformation begins with individuals, and I am encouraged to see the Adventist Church taking a leading role in supporting our people and complementing the work of government,” he said.

He also emphasised the importance of partnerships between churches, government and other stakeholders in strengthening communities and promoting unity across the country.

The visit concluded with prayer.
